prints and drawings from the Permanent Collection

A year ago, the Oyler Gallery of Historical Canadian Prints and Drawings celebrated printmakers who have worked in Nova Scotia with an artist for every letter of the alphabet, and visitors were challenged to find objects that also represented every letter in the prints themselves.

This exhibition focuses, not on the artists, but instead on the things they have drawn, beginning with Apple, and ending with Zebra. We have only one apple and one zebra in the collection, but complementary or contrasting images are included where possible.

B is for Butterfly, its double-curved line
A symbol of balance between world and spirit.
Of our need to unite the lands we inhabit,
The ‘admirable’ White is also a sign.
