A Sense of Place

Date Time:
Friday, 18 August 2017 - 8:00am to Wednesday, 18 October 2017 - 5:00pm
Community Room

The five members of the Artists Way Collective have used their varying art disciplines to evoke time and space in in their latest exhibition.

A Sense of Place reflects personal experiences ranging from traveling in France to walking around the backyard.

The group, who have been exhibiting together since 2013, consists of two painters and three fibre artists. Working in acrylic, Nadine Belliveau has explored “place” as position in society and in the life cycle. Sherry Caldwell, also working in acrylic, has created paintings inspired by "place" during a recent visit to France. Penny Berens, Grace Butland and Diane Clapp all work with fibre, incorporating eco-dyeing and stitch. Berens’ work is inspired by the rocky soil around her house in Granville Ferry. Butland has taken inspiration from the trees and flowers in her back yard and along the French Basin Trail in Annapolis Royal. Clapp has evoked personal experiences ranging from working with endangered species to a recent visit to Arizona.

The twenty-five pieces in this exhibition reflect an impressive range of imagery and technique. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work and inspiration on Saturday, September 9, from 1 to 3 p.m.
