At Large

Gilded Guides

Today, on National Philanthropy Day, and everyday, we celebrate the exceptional individuals who volunteer their time and expertise engaging visitors in conversation at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

The guides’ investment in the Gallery is manifold; many of these volunteers are also dedicated members and donors, and serve on committees, as well as on the Board of Governors.

This group of intrepid art enthusiasts rigorously train throughout the year to provide animated learning opportunities within the Gallery’s exhibitions for visitors of all ages, including school and community groups. For more than 40 years, these volunteers - which have included artists, university students, educators, and healthcare professionals - have brought their passion, knowledge, and love of learning to the Gallery. Through their adept guiding, they have sparked countless conversations with visitors from around the world.

In September 2021, we officially welcomed the guides back as a group after an 18-month hiatus due to COVID.

National Philanthropy Day provides us with an opportunity to shine a deserved spotlight on their commitment to the organization. From everyone at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, we thank you for your dedication. We’re thrilled to welcome you back!

This fall and winter, you can engage with a Gallery Guide through the new ASK ME program. To learn more, email info.agns@novascotia.ca.
